February 17 @ 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
Whether you are an RN working in a clinic or the Emergency Department, a Physician working in surgery, or a nursing assistant caring for the elderly in a nursing home, you have no doubt experienced the stress of caring for others. As a previous RN in the Emergency Department, I remember the overwhelming feeling of caring for so many different people and meeting each person where they were on an emotional level. We came to this profession because, deep down, we genuinely care for others and feel the wholesome desire to move toward others’ suffering and reach out with compassion. I remember speaking with another RN who told me about a patient constantly yelling at and insulting her. She said, “whatever, I don’t care anyways.” I suddenly realized, “we DO care!” “And that’s why this job is so challenging!”
People at all levels of practice are welcome. Beginning meditation instructions are always given.
Healing for Healthcare workers is a drop-in session dedicated to holding a safe space and providing support for caregivers. The session will start with a supportive guided meditation followed by a talk on how the teachings of compassion and equanimity can help us in our work life and personal life and end with time for shares and questions.
